“The renewal of the Church is also achieved through the witness offered by the lives of believers: by their very existence in the world, Christians are called to radiate the word of truth that the Lord Jesus has left us.”
“Only through believing, then, does faith grow and become stronger; there is no other possibility for possessing certitude with regard to one’s life apart from self-abandonment, in a continuous crescendo, into the hands of a love that seems to grow constantly because it has its origin in God.”
“By faith, across the centuries, men and women of all ages, whose names are written in the Book of Life (cf. Rev 7:9, 13:8), have confessed the beauty of following the Lord Jesus wherever they were called to bear witness to the fact that they were Christian: in the family, in the workplace, in public life, in the exercise of the charisms and ministries to which they were called.”
“By faith, we too live: by the living recognition of the Lord Jesus, present in our lives and in our history.”
– Pope Benedict XVI

We live in times where communication and modern technology seems to constantly tell us about the difficulties of life and terrible events throughout the world. For many of us, it all seems overwhelming. Nevertheless, I still believe there is joy and love around us if we seek them.
I was once told by a wise Franciscan to look around my world and try to see with the eyes of Christ. There is Christ our Savior in a mother’s embrace of her child. He is there as a daughter plays confidently and safely with her father. I have seen Him in the quiet late summer afternoon with the birds chirping, the sunset glowing in the sky.
And, when this occurs, I feel truly blessed, sitting with my wife, a glass of wine and with time for a quiet conversation on the patio at the end of the day talking about “Remember when….”
Peace and Grace,
